The life I live....

I'm a music lover who at the end of the day wants to feel as if she lived that day the best she could. Creating an amazing meal, hanging out with the amazing people I call friends, rocking out to some amazing tunes, buying a great piece of clothing or wearing bright pink lipstick..... Im optimistic about life and highlighting the moments that make it unique....

30 January 2012

Oh, School Days....

Being at school I notice things I normally wouldn't.
I think this is due to the fact that sometimes I want to occupy my brain with my surroundings more than my lectures.
This however I have found is a problem.
Why you may ask?
Because I have found a way to seriously scrutinize everything.
Not normally a personality trait I like to entertain.
Today though, I'm letting myself go wild.

1.
Cup o' Noodles.
In the cafeteria at the U you can buy a cup of noodles for around 2.50 ( WAY overpriced ) because they advertise this crappy-ass meal as "gourmet."
Really?!?!?
Guess what University? I'm not fooled.
** Sorry to all those who have fallen for this trickery**
If you have, STOP eating those.
They are packed with sodium and MSG!
I have also heard they have enough MSG to kill a rat.
SPOOOKY!

2.
The Snooze button.
I am NOT a believer in the snooze button.
Yes, I know I am probably the only one on the planet who thinks this.
But it really throws me off.
I would rather sleep in till the last second till I had to get up and just get up then and there.
I'm a morning person, so it's not as bad on my mental clock as it is for others.
Well, this morning, I hit the snooze for the first time in my life.
I wish I was lying, but I'm not.
It was only 10 minutes, but guess what?
I was late to class. Of course.
It threw me off hard core because for some reason I started to believe I had much more time than I had.
Blah.
Last time I'll do that. That's for sure.

3.
Freshman Gossip.
Now, I understand freshman gossip because I was one once.
Yes it was 300 years ago, but I remember it clearly.
The best damn years of my life.
The problem here is I can't stand hearing it anymore.
The way they talk horribly about other girls and talk about how tanked they got the night before and drunk dialed their mothers.
Get a grip.
The sad truth is, I used to think it was cool to talk like that too and now that I am older its easily said as....it's not.
Reality Check Ladies.
You sound caddy, rude and like a well-constructed lush.
Not any quality you want to be associated with, but then again... I was one of those girls.
I'm so sorry world, and I'm
sorry to anyone who was once in my shoes and had to listen to that gabber.

4.
Eating loud during class.
I dislike people who think this is appropriate.
I have always thought it was rude and gross.
Like a nail to the head.
I have turned into that person.
Gross.
You would think by now however I would have chosen other "quiet class appropriate" foods to take to school. Instead I still bring without a doubt an apple and carrots AND always find the craving to chow them down in my quiet class.
I don't mean to be that person, I promise and I try my best to think of you and to do the "slow bite" thinking people can't hear me, but from the looks I still get....
I'm being heard.

5.
High Heels at school.
Why?
Don't you know you don't dress to impress for people AT school?
Don't you know the size of the University campus is quite expansive?
I can only imagine the big blister forming on your big toe and heel at the same time.
Also, every person you clomp by is wondering the same thing about you....
From sporting these terribly high heeled shoes all day, your walking form has now turned un-attractive and grotesque and you're doing the exact opposite of the image you are trying to create. Sexy.
We all know you are in pain and trying to get that boys attention in your math class isn't worth it.
Just take them off, set them aside and put on some flats.
It'll make your life A LOT easier.

6.
Placing your feet over the chair in front of you in a packed lecture hall.
This is SO rude.
I just can't get over it.
Why in the world would you think someone wants your stanky ass feet in their face?
Today, I saw prime feet dangling.
Just right in between two people faces : a foot.
Yes the foot had an adorable flat on them that I am going to try and google... but seriously...
Real classy ladies.
Just FYI,
This classroom isn't a lounging hall.
We all know its uncomfortable and we would all love to lounge out but guess what?
Every single person around you has manners and knows how impolite you're being.

7.
Eating Rice Cakes.
I love rice cakes and I bring them all the time to snack on at school.
Yumm.
It's just that awkward moment when you see people staring at you and you look down at your shirt and its just COVERED in crumbs from your quick consumption of the rice cakes you just shoved in your mouth.
Slow down Hil.
Slow down.

Do you have any stories of annoying things you notice during school hours?
I would love to hear them!

Anyways
I hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday.
God knows I am :)
Love.
XOXO.

The End of a Weekend.

Hey everyone.
Hope you all had an amazing weekend.
I know I did.
Had a lot of girl time and fun with family.

The week started out a bit rough.
Early in the week I was slightly sick.
The mid week brought weird and embarrassing moments.
First. My cat ate floss.
Has your cat/dog ever done this?
She came into the bathroom while I was brushing my teeth and realized she found something in the trash she couldn't resist trying to recover.
I noticed it was floss and said " Lemon, no!"
Of course if you know anything about cats... they don't give a crap about what is coming out of your mouth.
I thought after 3 times of telling her this and stopping her attempts she got the idea.
Little did I know that she had snuck around to the other side of the bathroom garbage and found another piece.
Once I realized what was happening half of the gloss was down her gullet.
I tried to get it out but she ran... and fast.
Once I got to her she was finishing up the rest of the string and bam. It was done. She ate it. All.
She positioned her head towards me and gave me a face like.." Yeah I ate it. What are you going to do?"
Damn it.
I read all over the Internet that it should be safe, however once the floss passes it might not all come out and I might have to pull the rest out.
GAG me. I hope this doesn't happen.
I'll keep you updated about my experience if it does....
Maybe even a picture? Kidding!

Second. Going to the grocery store and your debit card declines.
Urg, this is the WORST.
I have only had this happen twice in my life and both were due to new debit cards that I stupidly hadn't activated yet.
However, this was different.
I had no idea why this was happening?
I knew I had money in my account, AND had just gotten paid.
Sadly the reason....
Two purchases went through that morning that I had forgotten about and I hadn't transferred money from my savings account into my checking.
I of course had to leave the grocery store in shame.
Head down.
Embarrassed.

The weekend however was different.....
It was fun. Just fun.

Finally got my new kicks!
Love.

Girls night.
Drinks, snacks and gossip galore.

Sharing the wealth of pink strands.

New Sunglasses.

Lets just say an ADULT in my family drew this.

I still have pink hair.

Also went to Brunch with my dearest Dana.
It was delicious.

Let me lastly share with you my new OBSESSION of food blogs...

You need to check it out.
Every recipe is inspirational.

Have a lovely week everyone.
I know I will!
LOVE.
XOXO.

Hue's

This morning I ran my ass to work.
Something I seem to be doing more often than not.
Of course my alarm chose not to go off this morning.
I woke up to the light coming through my windows and my first reaction was...
"boy it's light outside - weird?"
I closed my eyes again.
Ah!
I jumped out of bed and looked at my phone.
7:58.
I get to work usually around 8:10ish so I was FREAKING out!
You should have seen me this morning. I was the definition of a chicken with it's head cut off.
Toothbrush in my mouth, washing my face and trying to feed my cat while she is following me around meowing and rubbing her agile body all over my legs...
I'm honestly surprised I didn't get my bathroom mirror and see that the cat food was on my face and the face wash was in my mouth.
It was hectic.

To the point, I had no idea's of the ensemble I was putting together.
Just grab a shirt, grab some pants, grab shoes.... is all I was thinking.
When I got to work I looked in the mirror and realized I had put together an outfit all in the same hue.
Kind of weird I must admit.
I look like a blob of blueish/greyish... that's it.
And obviously this enlightened me to what my favorite colors to wear are.

I also added a few pics of my hair just so you can see how it turns out once you wash it.
Yes I washed it last night after I colored it.
I just wanted to see it's staying power.
Result : It stays.

Have a good night everyone!!!!!!
LOVE.
XOXO.

I did it! Colored Strands.

Hey everyone!!!!
So I did it. I dyed my hair!!!
Pink and purple.
I was really worried about coloring it with full on dye in case I didn't like it.
After googling for days I found an alternative.
Chalk.

Follow this "How To" I found on Lauren Conrad's beauty site:

My results:

BEFORE

AFTER

What do you guys think?

So easy. I love it.
I will keep going back for more colors, but they were pricey, so only once in awhile!

PS. If you have someone to help you, you should grab them. Danika helped me do the back since I couldn't see it well enough to add the strips.

LOVE.
XOXO

Artsy.

This past weekend was a lot fun and wonderful.
I got to spend time with friends and family.
Time I very much cherish.

On both occasions I got to be a little influenced by art that either a family member or friend made.
Nothings better than that.
Also, how often does that happen?
I wish I was more artistic, but I just don't have that vision you need to have in order to create masterpieces.

First experience:
My friend Danika is quite the artist.
She paints.
I went over to her home and saw that her apt was filled with paintings that she felt had no home or weren't quite finished.
One of her pieces I fell in love with, it was so colorful, yet simple.
At the end of the night she surprised me and told me that I could be the new mother to this amazing art piece.
The word STOKED is an understatement.
I was so excited about it that once it was in my hands I didn't want to let it go.
Even in the confinement of the front seat of a Subaru Forester.
It was a very uncomfortable drive filled with uncontrollable laughter.
I found the perfect place for it in my home
and have spent the past few days just staring at it... I just love it.

Second experience:
Last night Daniel and I went to my parent's home for dinner.
We spent the time exchanging stories, munching on cheesy popcorn, consuming plates of pot roast, carrots and potatoes and ending the night with photo slides.
First off, I have never seen anything like this.
My father had boxes of slides from his younger years but never really had a way to look at them since you need light to view them.
In the summer he found a slide projector and of course he had to pull it out to show off for Dan and I :)
It was one of the coolest moments.

All I know is that I am now on the look for a film camera that can take pictures for slides and of course a back lit projector like this to see the photos.
I wish you could see this better.
These photos don't do this justice.
He had some AMAZING, BREATHTAKING pictures that he said he was just trying to be "artsy."
Every picture the same 4 words came out of Daniel and I's mouths.....
" This is SO cool!"

It was such a great experience.
I love seeing photos of my parents when they were younger.
My dad even had a photo of my parents FIRST date!
Can you believe that?
A new years resolution I have just come up with is to take more photos.
They really are something you can take with you forever to re-live those times all over again.
To hear my father tell Dan and I stories while he reminisced, it was adorable and touching.
I want to be able to do that with my children.

Well, off I am to more classes.
I already can't wait for the weekend. Ha.
I hope everyone has a good one and let's all take MORE pictures....

LOVE.
XOXO.

Faux Leather.

Last year I bought a pair of faux leather pants from the LC collection at Kohl's.
They were truly an impulse buy.
I had never imagined I would buy a pair of these, but something about them was calling my name...
" Hilary.... come try my on, come see how rock and roll you'll feel..."

I wore them one night and stuck them in my closet until Halloween when I was Kesha.
Then I stuck them in my closet again until... last night.

I paired them with a simple band t-shirt ( for some reason I felt this was more appropriate )
and some classic tennis shoes.

Shirt: Other Lives band shirt. Pants: Lauren Conrad-Kohls. Shoes: Dexter.

The turnout?
Pretty darn good.
Had compliments and what I liked the most?
The comfort.
When you wear them with a simple T it seems to just represent another pair of pants, but with some flare.
It's not so "Grease" like.... so out there.. " Hey I'm wearing faux leather pants...."
If you see a pair around the next time you're shopping... grab em.
I'll be wearing mine more often.

Randomness:
Veggie Pho.
My favorite food.
( With a side of rice. I ALWAYS get a side of rice. My meal doesn't seem complete without it.)
Location: La Cai Noodle House.

Wine stain on white carpet...
Frightened?
Don't be.
Just put on a concoction of Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda.
Result: the day after.... gone!

Love Dove dark chocolate candies.
Love even more the messages embedded.
Live true to this statement.

Um... coolest cup of Joe I have ever drank.
I found this at my parents.
It's officially my cup I drink from at their home....

***************

I'm going to leave you with two commercials that I LOVE.
They are Honda CR-V commercials.
What it represent's is how I feel about making big decisions for my life...
I know everyone is different and everyone is on a different path.
For me though, these commercials are exactly how I feel and I love that they put this thought into consumers minds.
Before I even think about marriage or having a child there is a laundry list of things I feel I must accomplish before I do...
You most likely won't see me married till I'm 30 or older and kids, well... I only want one ( so I can afford to let them try everything they desire ) and that I dream won't happen till I am about 33-35.
I would like a few years with my husband of just us two before cracking into adding to our family.
Of course, not everyone is the same, and of course there is always that chance it won't go my way... but if I could, that would be my perfect scenario.
Now, don't get me wrong, I CANNOT wait until both of these events take place in my life, which I can only hope I'll be an amazing wife and mother, but I also know that I wouldn't feel complete as a person without years of trying things out in the world without either.
For people who are married and have children - I applaud you.
It's hard work and dedication.
It's just not my time..... yet.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and eventful Sunday.
Dan's up on the slopes after the HUGE snow storm last night while I blog and try to keep my boredom aside to finish my homework.
My parents invited Daniel and I over for dinner tonight to partake in my favorite meal my mother cooks...
Pot roast and vegetables.
Yummmm.
I can't ever turn it down....
( I also don't turn down time to spend with my parent's. They are my best friends and every time I leave their presence I am so thankful that I was born into these two amazingly supportive people. )

LOVE.
XOXO.

Health.
So, readers of my blog know that this year I'm really putting my body and my health first.
However, when I was thinking of my workout routines earlier this week I realized something...
" If I'm taking so much time to make sure the outside of my body is healthy, then I should also focus on the inside."
I know I am jumping on this bandwagon pretty darn late, but I have been trying to eat more organic.
I don't want to be one of those people who revolves around the organic lifestyle, but I am trying to make more of a conscious effort into putting less chemicals into my body.
So... how I am doing this?
It's as simple as buying organic fruits and veggies.
No need to do this for produce with skins that you remove, but apples and lettuce and such I am fully buying organic.
I used to be that girl who didn't think there was much of a difference, and thought they were way over priced.
At the end of the day though, it's worth the extra money.

Organic Apple. Yumm...
A product that I have also been consistently using is this:

It's not organic, ha, but it does help me get me to my water goal everyday which is very important to me.
I really like this product because its very subtle and add's just a touch of flavor so you can stomach nalgene after nalegene of water.
I am not into very sweet drinks, so this is perfect.

Hair.
This is a hair-do I have really been advocating for myself.
I am not sure if this is because I don't seem to have time anymore to do my hair, or the fact that its so comfortable?

The messy bun with an athletic hair elastic.
Really brings me a nostalgic feeling of my past of playing volleyball and soccer.
However, if you pair it with a big earring and a big bulky scarf it adds a more fashionable look...
( It's true, I have gotten many " your hair is so cute today" comments - kind of makes me giggle :) )

Workouts.
This week I went to a yoga class, which I haven't attended to in more than a year.
It was so much fun.
I went with my friend Danika, whom I haven't hung out with in years (sadly).
It was so nice to catch up and spend time with her.
She is still as beautiful, funny and charming as ever.
She is quite the yogi and I was very impressed with her skills.
I don't think I will be making this an every week routine, but every two weeks... for sure.
It's the perfect workout to stretch out my tired muscles from my usual running regimen.
I can't wait to go again.

Another workout I will be doing this week and am a virgin to is...
dun dun dun..
Cross training.

This intrigues me kind of more than anything.
I like the idea of me leaving after a workout with my ass being handed to me.
I can't wait to tell you all about it.
Any of you girls ( or boys who I know read this : ) ) done cross training before?
What did you think?

Fun.
If you haven't read Lauren Conrad's website before I suggest you start today.
I am such a groupie.
I LOVE her and her site.
She just cracks me up and is so inspirational in a laid back kind of way.

Check out her Friday post...
It made my day.

I'm going to leave you today with this:
Yarn Bombing.
I see these all over the Avenue's and I love them, this one really captured my heart though.
It's so creative and so cute :)

Have an AMAZING weekend everyone!!!
Love.
XOXO.

18 January 2012

Spoiled.

Hey Hey Hey!
This will probably be a short post, but I just wanted to share with you a few things from the past couple days.

Well, first off, I bought these.....
I'm so excited! I have always been into high top shoes and love this pair due to the color and simplicity.
They are what I would call a "pale green."
I have never bought a pair of Ked's, and I am hoping that this pair of kicks will change my mind about them.
I think what I love most about this brand the most is how simple all the styles are.
Also, what's great is right now on the Ked's website all the shoes are one sale......
Not to mention ladies.... I have a coupon for FREE shipping :)
Coupon: kedswelcome2011
Now, Go...Go..Go!!!

My January Birchbox came!!!!
Also, it's the best one I have received yet!
Let me tell you about it....
Viva La Juicy perfume sample ( I mean who doesn't love this smell ? )
Stila eyeliner  ( I have been DYING to buy this, then I got it! - and a FULL size! )

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy face wash ( Creamy! )
Birchbox magnet ( glam for my fridge )
VMW Hypoallergnics Everything lotion ( I'm excited for this one - face and body lotion )

I love, love, love these little sampler's at Whole Foods.
Right now they are 2 for $5 and they are the perfect for me.
I'm that girl who NEEDS to have 3 or more items to call it a meal so this just compliments my appitiete perfectly.
I like to get 3 or 4 to eat for dinner or snacks throughout the day.
Most of them are gluten free, which is wonderful!
My favorites :
1) Tofu Curry
2 ) Balsamic Beets
3) Vegan Salad
4) Black Bean Quinoa

My new blue nails!
What'a think?
They are so fun.
I'm starting to get a little more creative with my nails.
It's adventurous and different!

Sooooo.......
I love this drawing and tried my best to re-create it....

Silly? I'm sure - but it's fun to try an mimic a cartoon ( ha! )

Hope you had as much fun as I did :)
Love.
XOXO.
